Palmyra, NY

After Niagara Falls we headed to Palmyra, New York. Palmyra is where the prophet Joseph Smith lived as a young man and received the First Vision in the Sacred Grove. After receiving a heavenly visitation from our Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ, Joseph and his family were persecuted and hated in their community. Many threatened, harmed and mistreated the Smith's and the early members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. But Joseph never wavered in his declaration of the events of that day. Although hated by his fellow men, Joseph testified, "I had seen a vision; I knew it, and I knew that God knew it, and I could not deny it, neither dared I do it."

The kids great-great-great-great grandmother Lydia Smith Walker was born in the log cabin that they were standing in for the picture. It is actually a replica but sits on the foundation.
